While Abbas is looking at overseas ventures, other firms have begun to venture into new areas of operation. Stance Comm. & Prod. Pvt. Ltd. was set up in 1993 and has offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and London. Although the company has done its share of events such as an annual Holi carnival for Berger Paints on the outskirts of Pune and other shows for the launch of BPL mobile phones in Maharashtra & Goa, its London office plays a rather unusual role. It builds hype around visiting Indian stars to Britain. Targetting the asian community living there “Asians who went there in 1970's and 1980's do not have the same mind set as people in India,” explains the firms Chairman. “Our London office prepares its target audience to receive celebrities such as film stars and musicians from India.” Besides Stance selects locations for Film shooting in Britain and organizes equipment for film units shooting in Europe. “We call ourselves a one stop shop” says MD.
Stance now boasts of 50 employees and a Rs.10 crore turnover with the Mumbai operation contributing 40%. Stance organizes various functions such as internal Get togethers, Dinners, Conferences, Musical evenings and Carnivals. Last year Stance brought in the music group Euphoria to perform at the Ganga Retreat Club on the outskirts of Pune. It was a fun event, a party for all age groups from 5 – 50 recalls the firms MD.
“And it was a good test market for a certain kind of a product because many college students participated.”
